Manchester United icon Andy Cole has expressed his belief that Mason Mount, the club's new addition, has a lot to contribute in the midfield position. Mount made his debut for the Red Devils during the midweek fixture against Leeds United, which saw us secure a 2-0 victory in our preseason opener in Oslo.

The former Chelsea player showcased his skills and left the fans excited during his 45-minute appearance. In the second half, a completely different lineup took the field, ensuring a successful start to our preparations for the upcoming 2023/24 season.

Speaking about Mount, Cole said, "I hope he has a successful first season. He faced a challenging time at the end of his Chelsea career. Coming to Manchester United, he has added pressure by donning the number seven shirt. But credit to him, he clearly believes in himself, and I wish him the best."

Cole also expressed his confidence in manager Erik ten Hag's ability to bring out the best in Mount, stating that the boss has a plan for the player's success at United. "Ten Hag sees qualities in him that he likes, something he can work with," Cole remarked. "I hope Mount brings a fresh energy to Manchester United's midfield, as that seems to be his natural game – moving around the pitch and such."

The game against Leeds not only featured several senior players, including Lisandro Martinez returning from a season-ending injury, but it also provided an opportunity for many Academy players to impress the manager. Cole particularly enjoyed watching the young players in the second half, as they aimed to implement the manager's strategies and left a positive impression on him.

One standout performer was Noam Emeran, who contributed to both goals, scoring the first and assisting Joe Hugill for the second. Cole was impressed by Emeran's energy and attacking mindset, stating, "He was very positive, mentally, and displayed his energy by running at defenders."

Additionally, Cole praised the performance of a young central midfielder, Kobbie Mainoo, in the first half. He revealed that Mainoo had received recognition from others, suggesting that he might have featured in some matches towards the end of the previous season if not for an injury. Cole identified Mainoo as a promising talent and commended his abilities.

Reflecting on the game, Cole acknowledged the positive display of the young players and their seamless integration into the team. While he emphasized the potential they showcased, he also acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding their future paths. Nevertheless, their performance against Leeds left a significant positive impact.
