Hanna Lundkvist Out of Women's World Cup with Ankle Injury; Stina Lennartsson Steps In
The Swedish Football Association (SvFF) has announced that Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist will miss the Women's World Cup due to an ankle injury sustained during her team's final friendly match against the Philippines on Monday. The 21-year-old suffered the injury in a behind-closed-doors game, which Sweden won 5-1. Despite the efforts of Sweden's medical team, it has been determined that Lundkvist will not recover in time to participate in the tournament.
In a statement on Tuesday, team doctor Houman Ebrahimi explained, "After conducting further examinations in the evening, we regretfully concluded that Hanna will not be able to participate in the World Cup. The nature of her injury necessitates a longer recovery time, which is not feasible within the tournament's duration."
To fill the vacant spot, Stina Lennartsson from Linkoping FC has been chosen as Lundkvist's replacement. Lennartsson will join the team before their opening match against South Africa in Wellington on Sunday.
