Paris St Germain Completes Signing of Lucas Hernandez from Bayern Munich
Paris St Germain has officially signed defender Lucas Hernandez from Bayern Munich on a five-year contract, announced the Ligue 1 champions on Sunday.
Although the transfer fee has not been disclosed, French media reports suggest that PSG paid Bayern a fee of €40 million ($43.87 million) plus potential add-ons for the 27-year-old.
Expressing his excitement, Hernandez stated in a statement, "I'm really thrilled! I've been eagerly waiting to join PSG for a long time, and now it has finally happened. It's an extraordinary day for me, and I'm extremely happy to be here."
According to Spanish media reports, Atletico Madrid, Hernandez's childhood club, will also receive a substantial fee as part of the deal.
Since his arrival in 2019, the French international has made 107 appearances for Bayern Munich, the reigning German league champions. However, he only featured in seven league games last season due to a cruciate ligament injury sustained during the World Cup, which sidelined him for the remainder of the season.
Hernandez becomes PSG's fifth new signing, joining midfielders Manuel Ugarte and Lee Kang-in, central defender Milan Skriniar, and forward Marco Asensio.
In addition to the signing, PSG recently parted ways with manager Christophe Galtier and appointed former Barcelona and Spain coach Luis Enrique as his successor.
