Biography:

Raphael Varane, recognized as one of the world's most exceptional defenders in the past decade, boasts an illustrious track record that speaks volumes about his talent and achievements.

Born in April 1993, Varane exhibited early promise and signed his first professional contract with his boyhood club, Lens, just after turning 17. His impressive performances alongside older teammates at the Under-19 level earned him a spot as a starter in a November 2010 match against Montpellier during a defensive injury crisis. Despite Lens' relegation that season, Varane's skills caught the attention of top clubs across Europe.

In June of that year, Varane joined Real Madrid, beginning a remarkable ten-year association with the club. His journey at Madrid started as a bit-part player during the 2011/12 La Liga success, but he quickly established himself as a central defender alongside Sergio Ramos. His exceptional performances in Europe earned him a place in Marca's 'best-ever Real Madrid foreign XI' in 2013, even though he had played fewer than 50 games.

In a career-defining moment, Varane played a pivotal role in Real Madrid's 'La Decima' triumph, securing their 10th Champions League title by defeating Atletico Madrid in a thrilling match in Lisbon. He continued to contribute to Real Madrid's European success, winning three consecutive Champions League titles in 2016, 2017, and 2018.

Despite Real Madrid facing challenges in the 2018/19 campaign, Varane remained an integral part of the team. He further solidified his position as one of the club's most decorated overseas players and stood alongside esteemed French defenders like Laurent Blanc and Lilian Thuram.

Internationally, Varane made his debut for France in 2013 and represented his country at the 2014 World Cup, earning recognition as one of the tournament's Best Young Players. Two years later, he played a vital role in France's victorious 2018 World Cup campaign, showcasing his composure and clutch performances on the biggest stage.

Known for his consistent displays in the latter stages of the Champions League, Varane garnered attention for his athletic presence and understated authority on the pitch. Despite playing alongside iconic players like Cristiano Ronaldo and Sergio Ramos, Varane remained humble and focused on his game.

In 2021, Varane made a significant move to Manchester United, where he continued to excel as a central defender. Although his first season with the Reds was impacted by injuries, he displayed his class and even scored his debut goal for the club in a win against Brentford.

In February 2023, Varane added a Carabao Cup to his impressive trophy cabinet at Manchester United, further solidifying his status as a reliable performer. He retired from international football after the 2022 World Cup, where France reached the final but lost to Argentina.

Overall, Raphael Varane's career is a testament to his exceptional defensive abilities and his ability to shine in crucial moments, making him one of the finest defenders of his generation.
