The trio of Messi-Neymar-Mbappe failed at PSG for several reasons
Lionel Messi, Neymar, and Kylian Mbappe.
PSG was fortunate to have this trio together. When Messi joined PSG after leaving Barcelona in 2021, the football world was abuzz with discussions about how other teams would cope with these three formidable forwards. However, this trio did not find success.
Just like "MSN" (Messi, Suarez, Neymar) in Barcelona or "BBC" (Benzema, Bale, Cristiano) in Real Madrid, the Messi-Neymar-Mbappe (MNM) combination also failed to achieve its potential. They couldn't lead PSG to win the Champions League.
Why did this trio fail? Neymar explained it himself. In an interview with ESPN Brazil, the Brazilian star considered this situation similar to Real Madrid's "Galacticos" era at the beginning of the century. Despite the star-studded team, they couldn't win the Champions League. The same happened with PSG and the attacking power of Messi-Neymar-Mbappe; they couldn't win the Champions League either.
Neymar said, "The Galacticos also couldn't win the Champions League for Real Madrid. So, it can happen. We were considered the best trio in the world. PSG had built an amazing team to win the Champions League, but our failure was purely football-related."
Going into details, Neymar expressed his thoughts on their unfortunate situation, "We did everything we could to win, but in the end, the real thing was not to win. We were doing well as individuals. There was no problem. But in football, many unexpected things can happen. Our failure is just one of those things. Football is not like baking a cake, following a recipe."
Neymar was aware of Messi's move to PSG in 2021 even before it happened. Messi had left Barcelona due to financial issues. At that time, Neymar had many discussions with him about where he would go after leaving Barcelona. However, Messi did not reveal anything. Later, after having talks with PSG, he informed Neymar about his decision. Neymar said, "Messi didn't know where he would go after leaving Barcelona. Even though I asked him many times during his last two weeks at Barcelona, he couldn't say anything. After he reached an agreement with PSG, he let me know. Messi hasn't fully enjoyed Paris in these two years."
Neymar is not happy with Messi joining Inter Miami. The Brazilian star believes that Messi and his family will have a good time in Miami. He said, "I know Messi and his family very well. They live a different kind of life. Wherever Messi finds respect, he enjoys being there. They will be happy in Miami. The past two years with Messi in Paris were not easy. Messi is an amazing person, more than just a footballer. His personality goes beyond the field. His personal life is completely different. I wish Messi success in Miami."
