Inter Miami CF has made another significant signing by securing the services of Argentine center back Tomás Avilés from Racing Club. The 19-year-old player has signed a contract with the club until the 2026 MLS season, with options for 2027-28. Avilés becomes the third U22 Initiative acquisition for Inter Miami this summer, following the arrivals of Facundo Farías (forward) from Colón and Diego Gómez (midfielder) from Club Libertad.

Having featured in 20 first-team matches for Racing, Avilés also represented Argentina in the FIFA U-20 World Cup in May. Interestingly, he previously represented Chile in youth international competitions before making the switch to play for Argentina.

Inter Miami's Chief Soccer Officer and Sporting Director, Chris Henderson, expressed excitement over signing Tomás, praising him as a talented young player with a promising future. The opportunity to play alongside the likes of Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba in Miami was undoubtedly enticing for Avilés, especially after the ex-FC Barcelona trio joined the team on free transfers in mid-July. These high-profile signings, along with the leadership of new head coach Gerardo "Tata" Martino, have put the South Florida-based club in the global transfer spotlight and inspired hopes of a late-season turnaround.

Avilés himself is thrilled about the prospect of representing Inter Miami, stating that he will give his all for the club and contribute to achieving their objectives. With this new addition, Inter Miami's center-back position gains depth, and Avilés is expected to compete for playing time immediately, joining Canadian international Kamal Miller and Ukrainian international Sergii Kryvtsov in the team's defensive ranks.

As Inter Miami's revamped squad takes shape, they have progressed to the Round of 32 in the revamped Leagues Cup and advanced to the US Open Cup semifinals. The team aims to climb back into the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs field once regular-season action resumes on August 20th. The club's ambitious moves and strong performances have placed them in a position of prominence and promise an exciting future ahead.
