Toronto FC has officially welcomed forward Prince Owusu into their ranks, marking an exciting addition to their squad. Having previously represented Germany at the youth level, Owusu's signing as a free agent has been eagerly announced by the club on Friday.

At 26 years old, Owusu has committed to a contract that extends through the 2024 MLS season, with a further option for 2025. The MLS roster regulations have allowed for this signing, as clubs retain the ability to secure players who are out of contract until the Roster Freeze Date, which falls on September 15th. This window of opportunity follows the closure of the Secondary Transfer Window on August 2nd.

The decision to bring Owusu on board has been met with enthusiasm from Toronto FC's general manager, Jason Hernandez. Hernandez expressed his satisfaction in the acquisition, stating, "We are very happy to add Prince to our attacking group during this summer window. He has just completed a successful campaign in Germany and fits the profile of what we are looking to add in a striker."

Owusu's qualities as a player have not gone unnoticed. His reliability as a target in possession, coupled with his skillful and powerful runs behind opposing defenses, make him an ideal addition to Toronto FC's attacking prowess. This unique combination is anticipated to greatly contribute to the team's performance.

The Ghanaian forward began his professional journey within VfB Stuttgart's youth system, embarking on a trajectory that took him through Germany's lower divisions. Notably, he achieved an impressive record of 10 goals in 34 appearances during the previous season with SSV Jahn Regensburg. His success extended to other German clubs such as TSV 1860 Munich and Arminia Bielefeld.

Toronto FC's recent signing of Owusu comes as the second addition to their attacking lineup during the late stages of the season. This follows the acquisition of Cassius Mailula from South African top-tier team Mamelodi Sundowns FC. Additionally, the club has also bolstered their midfield with the inclusion of Latif Blessing and Franco Ibarra, both of whom were recruited from within the league.

Owusu's role within the Toronto FC setup is projected to involve competing for starter's minutes, a challenge he will share with experienced MLS veteran CJ Sapong. Notably, other strikers like Ayo Akinola, who is currently on loan to the San Jose Earthquakes, and Adama Diomande, who is sidelined due to a season-ending injury, will not be part of the immediate mix.
