Toronto FC has officially welcomed forward Prince Owusu to their roster, following his recent status as a free agent. The announcement, made on Friday, underlines the club's intent to bolster their attacking options.

Prince Owusu, aged 26, has committed to a contract that extends through the entirety of the 2024 MLS season, with an additional option in place for the 2025 season. This signing falls within the parameters set by MLS roster regulations, which permit clubs to secure the services of out-of-contract players until the Roster Freeze Date on September 15. Notably, the Secondary Transfer Window had concluded on August 2, making this acquisition particularly timely.

Toronto FC's General Manager, Jason Hernandez, expressed his enthusiasm about the acquisition in an official statement. He emphasized how Prince Owusu's recent accomplishments in Germany have aligned with the club's strategic goals. Hernandez specifically highlighted Owusu's ability to serve as a dependable presence during possession and praised his adeptness at making intelligent and potent runs behind opposing defensive lines.

Prince Owusu's professional journey commenced within the youth system of VfB Stuttgart, which marked the beginning of his venture through various tiers of German football. His previous season with SSV Jahn Regensburg saw him netting an impressive 10 goals in 34 appearances. Noteworthy achievements were also accomplished during his tenure with TSV 1860 Munich and Arminia Bielefeld.

The signing of Prince Owusu represents Toronto FC's second significant addition in the latter part of the season. The acquisition of Cassius Mailula from Mamelodi Sundowns FC, a prominent South African top-flight team, had preceded this move. In addition, the club welcomed two central midfielders, Latif Blessing and Franco Ibarra, both of whom joined from within the league.

Prince Owusu's role within the Toronto FC lineup is projected to involve fierce competition for starting minutes alongside seasoned MLS veteran CJ Sapong. It is important to note that fellow strikers Ayo Akinola and Adama Diomande are currently unavailable due to Akinola's loan to the San Jose Earthquakes and Diomande's season-ending injury.
