Barcelona has made a significant addition to their squad by securing the services of Portuguese full-back Joao Cancelo from Premier League champions Manchester City. This move comes in the form of a loan agreement that extends until June 2024, as confirmed by both clubs in a joint statement.

Barcelona expressed their gratitude towards the player for his willingness to make the necessary financial efforts to join the club and don their iconic shirt. This acquisition represents Barcelona's commitment to strengthening their squad.

Joao Cancelo, a 29-year-old talent, originally joined Manchester City in 2019 from Juventus. During his tenure with the Premier League outfit, he accumulated a total of 154 appearances, contributing nine goals and 22 assists to the team. However, in January, Cancelo embarked on a loan journey to Bayern Munich, which concluded in June.

Following his loan spell with Bayern Munich, Cancelo returned to Manchester City, where he signed a contract extension that binds him to the club until the summer of 2027, highlighting the faith Pep Guardiola's team has in his abilities.

On the international stage, Cancelo has represented Portugal with distinction, earning 44 caps for his country. His international achievements include participation in the 2022 World Cup and triumph in the inaugural 2019 UEFA Nations League.

Notably, Joao Cancelo will reunite with former Manchester City captain Ilkay Gundogan at Barcelona. Gundogan also made a notable move to the Spanish club, joining on a free transfer following his departure from the treble-winning Manchester City side. This reunion further strengthens Barcelona's squad as they aim to compete at the highest level in both domestic and international competitions.
