Borussia Dortmund secured a hard-fought 3-1 victory against Hoffenheim on Friday, temporarily ascending to the top of the Bundesliga standings. The win marked Dortmund's third consecutive league victory, propelling them to 14 points, one ahead of both Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich, who were set to play their matches on Saturday.

Dortmund took the lead in the 18th minute, capitalizing on a defensive error, with Niclas Fuellkrug confidently slotting home the ball for his first goal of the season. However, Hoffenheim responded swiftly with Andrej Kramaric converting a penalty in the 25th minute to level the score. As the first half drew to a close, Dortmund regained the lead at 2-1, with Marco Reus calmly dispatching the ball into the net after Hoffenheim's goalkeeper, Oliver Baumann, failed to hold onto a cutback.

Remarkably, Marco Reus, aged 34 and previously considered to have lost his starting position for the season, has now scored three goals in the last three league matches, showcasing his enduring quality.

Hoffenheim exhibited a strong start in the second half and came close to equalizing when a stunning Robert Skov free-kick struck the crossbar. Dortmund was reduced to 10 men in the 71st minute after Ramy Bensebaini received a second booking and was subsequently sent off. Nevertheless, it was Dortmund who extended their lead with a remarkable 70-meter sprint from Julian Ryerson during stoppage time, ending Hoffenheim's four-game winning streak.
