Olympique de Marseille made the decision to part ways with head coach Marcelino, citing an ongoing dispute with the club's supporters. This move came after a contentious meeting on September 18, where fans' representatives were accused of threatening the club's management and pressuring them to resign.

Marseille expressed their perspective on the matter, stating, "Olympique de Marseille considers that the events of Sept. 18 do not allow Marcelino and his technical staff to carry out the role for which they were hired in good conditions." Consequently, Marcelino and his staff would not continue their tenure with the club.

The club expressed their disappointment with this situation, highlighting that Marcelino and his team had only arrived at Marseille on June 23 and were fully dedicated to the club. Their departure was solely due to non-sporting reasons.

Marcelino, the former coach of Valencia and Athletic Bilbao, had taken over at Marseille in June, replacing Igor Tudor. At the time of his departure, Marseille held the fourth position in Ligue 1, with two wins and three draws. However, they failed to qualify for the Champions League this season, being eliminated in the third qualifying round by Panathinaikos.

Marseille's upcoming matches include a Europa League fixture against Ajax Amsterdam and a Ligue 1 clash against reigning champions Paris St Germain.
