Italian Vincenzo Montella has been appointed as Turkey's new national team coach by the Turkish Football Federation (TFF), following the departure of German coach Stefan Kuntz.

Kuntz's exit occurred this week after he openly criticized his players following a 4-2 friendly loss to Japan.

Vincenzo Montella, aged 49, previously served as the coach of Turkish club Adana Demirspor for two years until June of this year. His coaching career also includes stints with prominent clubs such as AC Milan and Fiorentina in Italy and Sevilla in Spain.

Montella is set to sign a three-year contract with the Turkish national team, with an official ceremony scheduled for September 27 in Istanbul, as announced by the TFF.

Turkey's upcoming match is a Euro 2024 qualifier against Croatia, scheduled for October 12, which will mark Montella's first test as the national team's new coach.
