Professional Journey

Kevin De Bruyne, hailed as one of the premier attacking players in world football, embarked on a remarkable journey that led him to Manchester City in the summer of 2015. His meteoric rise from a highly-rated youngster to a midfield maestro is a testament to his exceptional talent and dedication to the game.

De Bruyne's professional career commenced in 2009 with Genk, where he quickly established himself as a vital component of their title-winning squad. During the 2010/11 season, he recorded an impressive 17 assists and netted six goals, showcasing his innate playmaking abilities.

In January 2012, Chelsea recognized De Bruyne's potential and secured his services. However, he remained with Genk until the end of that season before spending the following campaign on loan at Werder Bremen, where he flourished in the Bundesliga, amassing 10 goals in 34 starts.

Despite his promising start, opportunities at Chelsea were scarce, leading De Bruyne to make a pivotal move to Wolfsburg in January 2014. It was in Germany that he truly blossomed, setting a Bundesliga record with 21 assists and contributing 16 goals as Wolfsburg secured a second-place finish and won the German Cup in the 2014/15 season. His remarkable performances earned him prestigious accolades, including the Bundesliga Player of the Year and Footballer of the Year titles.

Upon joining Manchester City, De Bruyne made an immediate impact, endearing himself to the fans with a series of match-winning displays. He quickly became an indispensable part of City's attack, orchestrating, creating, and often finishing crucial plays. His debut season saw him score 16 goals and provide 15 assists, earning him the title of City's Player of the Season.

The 2016/17 season saw De Bruyne lead the Premier League in assists, but it was in the subsequent season that he reached his zenith. His instrumental role in City's title triumph, marked by extraordinary performances, earned him the Club's Player of the Season award for the second time.

Injuries marred De Bruyne's 2018/19 campaign, but he still made significant contributions when fit, including being named Man of the Match in the FA Cup final. The 2019/20 season was stellar for the Belgian, with 48 appearances, 16 goals, and equalling Thierry Henry's Premier League assist record of 21. He received several prestigious honors, including City Player of the Season, UEFA Midfielder of the Year, and PFA Players' Player of the Year.

De Bruyne continued his brilliance in the 2020/21 season, making 40 appearances, scoring 10 goals, and securing more silverware for City. He also won the PFA Players Player of the Year for the second consecutive time and signed a new four-year deal in April 2021.

In the 2021/22 season, De Bruyne's exceptional second-half performances were pivotal in driving City towards another Premier League title, where he scored 19 goals in 43 games and was named the Etihad Player of the Season for the fourth time. His remarkable year culminated with a third-place finish in the 2022 Ballon d'Or.

De Bruyne also represented Belgium at the 2022 World Cup, marking his third appearance at the prestigious tournament. Although it ended in disappointment with an early exit for the Red Devils, De Bruyne's international contributions remained invaluable.

Kevin De Bruyne's legacy at Manchester City is nothing short of legendary. His prowess in the opposition's half has been instrumental in securing crucial victories, including a memorable run to the FA Cup final and a historic 1-0 win over Inter in the Champions League final, which secured the Treble for City. He continues to be a key figure in the world of football, consistently earning recognition as one of the finest midfielders of his generation, including his inclusion in the FIFPro World XI for a third consecutive year in February 2023.
