Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp played the role of peacemaker during a heated moment in Sunday's 2-2 Premier League draw against Brighton & Hove Albion. The incident occurred when Brighton boss Roberto de Zerbi engaged in a heated exchange with officials on the touchline.

De Zerbi received a yellow card from referee Anthony Taylor in the 69th minute after vehemently protesting a denied penalty claim. The penalty appeal arose when Kaoru Mitoma's shot struck the arm of Liverpool's Virgil van Dijk.

Even after being cautioned, the Italian manager continued to voice his dissatisfaction. It was at this point that Klopp intervened, attempting to defuse the situation.

Klopp, 56 years old and no stranger to disagreements with referees himself, explained to reporters, "In the moment when he got a bit outraged I used my age and tried to calm him down. I just saw if I am in a moment like this, there's a moment of no going back that appears. I think he was close to that and then I tried to calm him down. I am not sure if he needed it or not, you can ask him, but he probably told me something about the penalty, but I had no clue what he was talking about. I think he wanted a penalty..."

Regarding the incident, De Zerbi expressed his respect for Klopp, saying, "I love Klopp and he can do what he wants because I have big respect for him, and I consider him as one of the best coaches in the world." He went on to clarify that he believed there was a clear penalty in the situation and had communicated this to the referee in a respectful manner.
