In a thrilling match-up, Barcelona's Ronald Araujo emerged as the hero, securing a last-gasp 1-0 victory against Real Sociedad on Saturday and keeping their pace with the leading teams in LaLiga, despite facing a significant challenge from the dominant hosts.

During the first half, Real Sociedad relentlessly pressed forward, creating numerous scoring opportunities, only to be thwarted time and again by the remarkable goalkeeping skills of Marc-Andre ter Stegen. Meanwhile, Barcelona's chances were limited, with Fermin Lopez coming closest to scoring after a foul on Joao Felix just before halftime.

The intensity of the game heightened in the second half, with Sociedad's Alex Remiro pulling off a brilliant save to deny Gavi, while Ronald Araujo had an effort disallowed for offside. However, Araujo ultimately seized the moment, heading in the winning goal in the 92nd minute, securing a crucial victory for Barcelona.

With this win, Barcelona currently stands in third place in the LaLiga standings with 27 points from 12 games, trailing the leaders Girona by four points, following Girona's 4-2 triumph over Osasuna earlier on the same day. Real Sociedad, on the other hand, holds the sixth position with 19 points.

Despite the celebratory mood, Barcelona's manager, Xavi Hernandez, expressed dissatisfaction with his team's overall performance, particularly highlighting the lack of intensity during the initial stages of the game. He emphasized the need for improvement, acknowledging that the team's negative aspects became pronounced in the second half. However, he found solace in the spectacular nature of their victory, considering it a significant morale boost for the team.

Looking ahead, Barcelona is set to face Shakhtar Donetsk in the upcoming Champions League fixture on Tuesday in Hamburg, while Real Sociedad prepares to host Benfica on Wednesday, as both teams continue their pursuit of excellence on the European stage.
