Bentancur Blow Adds to Tottenham's Premier League Woes
Tottenham Hotspur faced another setback as midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur had to leave the pitch in the first half of their 2-1 Premier League loss to Aston Villa on Sunday. Bentancur, who had recently returned from an eight-month injury hiatus due to a serious knee injury, was making his first start when a challenge from Matty Cash in the 26th minute resulted in his injury.
Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou expressed disappointment at losing Bentancur, highlighting his positive impact on the game. Bentancur's setback, this time an ankle issue, adds to Tottenham's injury woes, already missing key players like James Maddison, Micky van de Ven, Richarlison, Ivan Perisic, Manor Solomon, Ryan Sessegnon, and the suspended Cristian Romero.
Tottenham, who had an impressive start to the season, now faces a challenging period with several key players out. Postecoglou acknowledged the tough situation, noting the team's limited squad and the recent loss of defender Ashley Phillips during the week.
"We have got eight (injuries), Bentancur nine, we had a couple of suspensions today and we've only got a squad of 25," said Postecoglou. Despite the challenges, he expressed confidence in the team's ability to overcome the situation, emphasizing the importance of maintaining their intent and style of play for eventual success.
