Antoine Griezmann secured Atletico Madrid's 1-0 victory with a crucial header in a less-than-impressive performance against Mallorca on Sunday, propelling them to third place in LaLiga. Despite sharing 31 points with Barcelona, Atletico holds a game in hand over the reigning champions. Girona leads with 34 points, closely followed by Real Madrid.

Despite dominating possession, Atletico struggled in attack, with left back Samuel Lino being a standout performer, tirelessly navigating the wing. Angel Correa squandered a prime opportunity early on, failing to convert after Lino's impressive dribble.

In the second half, Alvaro Morata missed two clear chances, but the breakthrough came in the 64th minute. Mario Hermoso's left-channel run culminated in a precise cross to Griezmann, who executed a superb header into the top right corner, marking his ninth LaLiga goal this season.

As Atletico pressed for a second goal, defensive vulnerabilities emerged, and Mallorca nearly capitalized in the 84th minute, with Amath Ndiaye missing a close-range chance. Captain Koke, celebrating his 600th game for Atletico, acknowledged the challenge posed by Mallorca, emphasizing the importance of securing the points and maintaining focus.

Griezmann, now one goal behind top scorer Jude Bellingham, aims to close in on Luis Aragones' record as Atletico's all-time leading scorer with 173 goals. Despite the tough match, Koke emphasizes the collective effort and the need to persevere in the pursuit of success.
