Kane's Goal Lifts Bayern to Summit in 1-0 Win Over Cologne
Harry Kane continued his remarkable Bundesliga scoring streak by tapping in a close-range goal in the first half, securing a 1-0 victory for Bayern Munich against Cologne on Friday. This win propelled Bayern provisionally to the top of the league table.
Kane, the England captain who set a Bundesliga record as the league's most expensive transfer from Tottenham Hotspur in a €100 million move this season, has now netted an impressive 18 goals in the opening 12 games. Additionally, he became the first English player to achieve such a goal tally in a single Bundesliga season.
The unbeaten Bavarians now sit at the summit with 32 points, just one ahead of Bayer Leverkusen, who face Werder Bremen on Saturday. On the other hand, Cologne, with only one win in 12 matches, find themselves anchored at the bottom of the table.
Reflecting on the game, Kane said, "It was a really good game for us today. Some people look at the result and might have expected a little more. But it was a fantastic game from everyone." Despite having multiple chances, Bayern couldn't convert more in the first half, with Kane emphasizing the importance of the result.
Bayern dominated the early stages, creating numerous opportunities, including a one-on-one for Leroy Sane. Cologne's Timo Huebers nearly scored an own goal under Bayern pressure in the seventh minute. Kane's goal eventually came in the 20th minute, capitalizing on a rebound after an effort from Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting.
While Bayern eased off in the second half, they maintained control and were rarely threatened. Kingsley Coman hit the crossbar with a header in the 79th minute, adding to the missed chances for the visitors.
