Lionel Messi rose to a unique height in December last year by winning the World Cup in Qatar. He started the year 2023 with happy memories of winning the World Cup. The year was a bit of an ups and downs for Messi though. Especially in the last six months at PSG, Messi was not good at all. The audience has to listen to this Argentinian superstar.

At the end of the season, Messi left PSG for Major League Soccer (MLS) club Inter Miami. However, Messi started off great in Miami. He also brought the team the first title in their history. In the last part of the MLS season, however, Messi could not play much due to injury.

Although there have been ups and downs for the club, the Argentinian captain has regularly shone in the jersey of the national team. Argentina has lost only one match in the whole year in friendly match and World Cup qualification. Barring that 2–0 loss against Uruguay, Argentina had a great year.

In this year, Messi played a total of 45 matches. Where he scored 28 goals. 9 for PSG, 11 for Inter Miami and 8 goals in Argentina jersey. None of these 28 goals were scored by Messi on penalties. That is, in the calendar year 2023, Messi did not score any goal from the penalty. Not that Messi missed the goal with a penalty. Messi has not taken any penalties this year. And this incident happened in Messi's career after 17 years. Before that, the last time Messi finished the year without a penalty was in 2006.

From 2007 to 2022, Messi scored goals from penalties in every season. Where Messi scored 14 goals in penalty kicks for Barcelona in 2012. That was the most penalty goals in a year in his career. Messi reached double figures in penalty goals for the second time in his career in 2017.

This World Cup winning footballer got 10 goals in service penalty. And in the year of winning the World Cup in 2022, Messi scored a total of 6 goals in penalties. All four of which he did in the World Cup. Messi even scored a penalty against France in the World Cup final. That goal scored in the World Cup final is the last penalty goal of Messi's career so far.
