Yunus Musah, at 21 years old, has experienced a significant surge in recognition both at the club and international levels throughout 2023. Notably, his impactful contributions in midfield and his transfer to Serie A prompted his nomination for the U.S. Soccer Male Player of the Year.

The voting process for the awards involves fan participation, accounting for 15% of the total vote, and nominees are selected by U.S. Soccer’s technical staff. Voting commenced on December 11 and concludes on December 18, with the winners to be announced in the subsequent weeks.

Examining Musah's accomplishments in 2023, he emerged as a consistent presence in the USMNT lineup, leading all field players with 809 minutes played and securing nine starts in 10 appearances. His 33rd career cap, achieved during the Concacaf Nations League match against Trinidad and Tobago on November 21, set a record for the most appearances by a USMNT player before turning 21, surpassing notable figures like Jozy Altidore, Landon Donovan, and Christian Pulisic.

Musah played a pivotal role in the USMNT's triumph in the 2023 Concacaf Nations League, participating in all four matches, including standout performances in the semifinal and final. Additionally, his transfer to AC Milan in Serie A for $20 million on August 4 marked a significant move in his club career. Musah has made 13 appearances in Serie A and four in the UEFA Champions League for AC Milan, contributing one assist, notably providing the late match-winner for Christian Pulisic in a 1-0 victory over Genoa on October 7.

While this marks Musah's first nomination for U.S. Soccer Male Player of the Year, his previous recognition includes being named the 2022 U.S. Soccer Young Male Player of the Year, securing his place as a rising star in American soccer.
