Anthony Gordon secured a vital 1-0 victory for Newcastle against Manchester United at a chilly St James' Park. Eddie Howe's team climbed to fifth with 26 points after 14 games, surpassing Manchester United in seventh with 24 points under Erik ten Hag.

Howe expressed his satisfaction with the players, praising their brilliant performances against top teams. He emphasized the confidence gained from these victories and anticipated further progress with the return of injured players.

This win marked Newcastle's third consecutive victory over Manchester United in all competitions, a feat not achieved since January 1922. Gordon, who scored his sixth Premier League goal of the season in the 55th minute, attributed the success to the team's hard work and camaraderie.

Gordon capitalized on Kieran Trippier's cross after Manchester United lost possession in midfield. Trippier's delivery found Gordon, who netted the decisive goal in a dominant performance by Newcastle.

Reflecting on the win, Gordon expressed his joy and emphasized the team's resilience through both good and challenging moments. Newcastle, having drawn 1-1 with Paris St Germain in the Champions League, showcased their dominance by peppering United's goalkeeper Andre Onana with 22 shots, compared to the visitors' seven.

Despite a late push by Manchester United, including a disallowed headed effort by Harry Maguire, Newcastle's cohesive and hungry display halted their opponent's four-game away winning streak. Maguire and Luke Shaw's defensive efforts prevented a more significant goal margin.

However, Newcastle faced a setback with goalkeeper Nick Pope's substitution due to a dislocated shoulder in the 86th minute. Howe expressed concern about Pope's potential absence, describing it as a massive blow for the team.

In summary, Anthony Gordon's goal secured a significant win for Newcastle, showcasing their determination and teamwork against a formidable opponent. The victory holds promise for Newcastle's future performances, pending the return of key players from injury.
