Manchester City has finalized the acquisition of Claudio Echeverri, a talented midfielder hailing from River Plate in Argentina. At just 18 years old, Echeverri's contract extends until June 2028, with plans for him to transition to the Etihad Stadium in January of the following year.
Having recently celebrated his 18th birthday on January 2, Echeverri has already showcased his abilities, making six appearances for River Plate. His debut under the management of former City defender Martin Demichelis occurred in June 2023, during which he contributed an assist in a 3-1 triumph over Instituto Cordoba.
Echeverri's promising career trajectory continued as he captained Argentina's Under-17 team in the World Cup held in November and December, notably netting a hat-trick in a decisive 3-0 quarter-final victory against Brazil. Despite the team's elimination in the semi-finals by Germany, Echeverri's outstanding performance earned him the bronze ball as the tournament's third top scorer.
With a total of 23 appearances for Argentina's Under-17 squad, tallying 13 goals, Echeverri has also had the privilege of training with the senior national team. He follows in the footsteps of Julian Alvarez, a 2022 World Cup champion, who made the transition from River to City in 2022, continuing the legacy of Argentine talents at the club.
Manchester City eagerly anticipates Echeverri's integration into the team and extends their best wishes for his continued success during his remaining tenure with River Plate.
