The thirty-sixth iteration of the Italian Supercup promises an enhanced experience with an innovative format unveiled in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Renamed the EA SPORTS FC Supercup 2023/2024, this edition signifies a significant departure from the traditional structure established in 1988. Unlike the previous single-final setup involving the reigning Serie A TIM champion and the national cup winner, the new format embraces four teams, introducing two Semi-finals and a Final.

On Thursday, January 18, at 20:00 CET, Napoli, the Serie A TIM 2022/2023 Champion, will confront Fiorentina, the Coppa Italia Frecciarossa 2022/2023 Runner-up, in the first Semi-final. The second Semi-final, scheduled for Friday, January 19, at 20:00 CET, will witness Inter, the Coppa Italia Frecciarossa 2022/2023 Winner, facing Lazio, the Serie A TIM 2022/2023 Second-placed team. The victors from these Semi-finals will vie for the trophy in a single-match Final on Monday, January 22, at 20:00 CET. In a scenario where one or both of the national cup finalists coincide with the top two league teams, the third, and potentially fourth-placed teams in Serie A TIM would enter.

This transformative format also introduces rule modifications. Notably, matches in the EA SPORTS FC Supercup 2023/2024 will not feature extra time. In the event of a draw after regular time, a penalty shootout will determine the outcome. Additionally, disciplinary measures, such as suspensions incurred in Serie A TIM 2023/2024, won't affect Supercup matches but will be applicable to the first league match post-suspension. Cautions received during Supercup matches will carry over to subsequent league games. An exception to this rule is expulsion measures imposed in the Semi-final on a player or coach, which must be served in the Final.
