Niclas Fuellkrug, currently spearheading Borussia Dortmund's attacking front, is gearing up to confront his former club, Werder Bremen, in an anticipated Friday clash. The German forward's remarkable ascent in recent times has positioned him as the foremost threat for the visiting team.

Fuellkrug's professional journey has witnessed a late surge, culminating in his accolade as the Bundesliga's top scorer last season at the age of 29. This feat propelled him towards a move to the prestigious Champions League club, Dortmund, during the summer transfer window.

Having emerged from Werder Bremen's youth system and serving two separate stints at the club, Fuellkrug's accomplishments were further validated by his maiden call-up to the German national team just ahead of the World Cup last year.

His striking prowess has remained consistent, notching an impressive tally of nine goals in 11 international appearances, including recent scoring contributions during friendly matches against the United States and Mexico.

Dortmund's coach, Edin Terzic, emphasized Fuellkrug's seamless integration into the squad, praising his impactful performance and highlighting his recent goal-scoring exploits with the national team. Fuellkrug's contributions have extended to the domestic front as well, with two goals and an assist in seven league matches for Dortmund.

Given the injury of Youssoufa Moukoko and the delayed return of Sebastien Haller from international duty, Fuellkrug's form stands as a pivotal factor for Dortmund's prospects against Werder Bremen.

As Dortmund gears up for a busy schedule, including a Champions League fixture against Newcastle United next Wednesday, Terzic expressed the hope for Fuellkrug's sustained fitness, acknowledging the demanding string of seven matches lined up over the next three weeks.
