Arsenal claimed the top spot in the Premier League with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Brentford, propelled by a late goal from Kai Havertz. Earlier draws for Manchester City and Liverpool opened the opportunity for Mikel Arteta's side to leapfrog both teams.

Arsenal's goalkeeper, Aaron Ramsdale, making a return to the starting lineup, survived a first-half scare when a moment of hesitation and a slip almost led to a goal for Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo. However, a crucial clearance by Declan Rice spared Ramsdale. A subsequent botched throw-out by Ramsdale added to the tense moments.

The visitors thought they had taken the lead in the 41st minute when Leandro Trossard bundled in a rebound after Bukayo Saka's excellent delivery met Gabriel Jesus. Unfortunately, VAR ruled out the goal due to Trossard being marginally offside in the build-up.

Despite Brentford posing threats in the second half, with Mbeumo and Neal Maupay testing Arsenal's defense, the visitors persevered. In the 89th minute, Saka delivered another outstanding ball into the area, finding Havertz, who headed home from close range to secure the crucial win.

With this victory, Arsenal climbed to the top of the league with 30 points from 13 games, leading City by one point and Liverpool by two. Havertz's late heroics provided the Gunners with a significant edge in the title race.
