Late in the second half, Atletico Madrid's Antoine Griezmann and Samuel Lino sealed a comeback victory against Villarreal, winning 3-1 in their LaLiga clash on Sunday in the Spanish capital. Despite struggling, Villarreal took an early lead with Gerard Moreno's 20th-minute strike. Atletico's goalkeeper, Jan Oblak, made a crucial save, and they equalized before halftime with Axel Witsel's close-range shot from Griezmann's cross.
Atletico, unbeaten in home games this season, dominated the second half. Griezmann scored in the 80th minute from a sublime cross by substitute Pablo Barrios, marking his eighth goal in 12 LaLiga matches. France captain Griezmann, in arguably one of his best seasons at 32, has 11 goals and four assists in all competitions.
With the Metropolitano crowd's support, Atletico continued pressing, and substitute Lino secured the win with a well-executed finish in the 85th minute. Griezmann acknowledged the challenging match, attributing the win to bench players making a difference and crediting the fans for their unwavering support. The victory places Atletico fourth in LaLiga with 28 points, just two behind Barcelona in third, and they have a game in hand over rivals Real Madrid, who are in second place.
