Madrid's two fierce rivals, Real and Atlético, are meeting in the last sixteen of the Copa del Rey. However, Barcelona, another superpower of Spanish football, has a relatively easy opponent. Javi Hernandez's side will play in the last sixteen against Spanish third division side Unionistas.

Real's match on January 18 is at Atletico's ground. Barcelona also have to play away from home, with their match against Unionistas on January 17.

On January 6, Real reached the last sixteen by beating Arrandina 3-1. Their opponents in the last sixteen, Atlético, won at Lugo in the previous round by the same margin. And Barcelona advanced to the last sixteen with a 3-2 win over Barbastro. Their opponents Unionistas beat Villarreal in the previous round. They won the match tied at 1-1 in the tiebreaker by 7-6.

Osasuna-Real Sociedad, Girona-Rae Viacano, Valencia-Celta Vigo, Tenerife-Mallorca, Atletico Bilbao-Alves, Getafe-Sevia face off in the remaining 6 matches in the last sixteen.
