Manchester City Dominates at The Best FIFA Football Awards 2023
Premier League excellence shone at The Best FIFA Football Awards 2023 in London, where Manchester City's dominance was celebrated. A remarkable six City players—Kyle Walker, John Stones, Ruben Dias, Bernardo Silva, Kevin De Bruyne, and Erling Haaland—earned spots in the FIFA FIFPRO Men’s World11, a historic achievement for an English club.
Notably, 12 players from the current Premier League or those involved in the competition in 2023 were shortlisted. This esteemed list included Ederson, Rodri, Ilkay Gundogan (now at Barcelona), Emiliano Martinez, Virgil van Dijk, and Harry Kane (now at Bayern Munich).
While Ederson secured the Best Men's Goalkeeper award, a notable recognition eluded Erling Haaland, who was nominated for Best Men's Player but faced stiff competition from Lionel Messi's standout performances in Major League Soccer with Inter Miami.
The evaluation period for men's achievements spanned from December 19, 2022, to August 20, 2023. Pep Guardiola, guiding Manchester City to a historic treble, was rightfully honored as the Best Men's Coach, marking his first win in this category after securing third place in the previous two years.
Additionally, Julio Enciso from Brighton & Hove Albion, acknowledged for his extraordinary goal against Manchester City in May, contended for the prestigious FIFA Puskas award for Best Goal. Although his remarkable strike had won the Budweiser Goal of the Season award for 2022/23, the honor ultimately went to Brazilian Guilherme Madruga.
The ceremony served as a testament to the Premier League's talent and Manchester City's exceptional achievements on the global football stage.
