Onana Set to Return to Manchester United after Cameroon's AFCON Exit
Goalkeeper Andre Onana is poised to rejoin Manchester United following Cameroon's elimination from the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) by Nigeria. Nigeria clinched a 2-0 victory in the last-16 tie, courtesy of Ademola Lookman's brace. Lookman's goals set up a quarter-final clash with Angola.
Nigeria boasts four Premier League players in their squad: Ola Aina (Nottingham Forest), Calvin Bassey (Fulham), Frank Onyeka (Brentford), and Alex Iwobi (Fulham). Onana, having played only one match in AFCON, could be available for Manchester United's upcoming match against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
In other Premier League-related AFCON matches, DR Congo, led by Yoane Wissa, will face Egypt, featuring Mohamed Elneny and Mohamed Salah. Salah, nursing an injury, won't be available for the match.
Senegal and Ivory Coast, featuring several Premier League players, are set to clash next. Senegal's squad includes Moussa Niakhate, Fode Ballo-Toure, Pape Sarr, Cheikhou Kouyate, Idrissa Gueye, and Nicolas Jackson, while Ivory Coast's squad features Simon Adingra, Serge Aurier, Willy Boly, and Ibrahim Sangare.
The final round of last-16 matches could see seven Premier League players in action, including Mali's Yves Bissouma, Boubacar Traore, Burkina Faso's Issa Kabore, Dango Ouattara, Bertrand Traore, and Morocco's Nayef Aguerd and Sofyan Amrabat.
