In Liverpool's 4-1 victory over Chelsea, Darwin Nunez etched his name in Premier League history by hitting the woodwork four times, a feat unprecedented since data tracking began in 2003/04.

Before Nunez's remarkable performance, hitting the woodwork thrice in a match had only occurred on four occasions. Despite his 11 attempts on goal, Nunez failed to find the net, joining Luis Suarez as the second Liverpool player to attempt that many shots without scoring, matching Suarez's record against Norwich City in October 2011.

Of Nunez's 11 shots, only five found the target, while four struck the woodwork, contributing to an Expected Goals (xG) tally of 1.45. Astonishingly, Nunez has hit the post or crossbar nine times this season, triple the number of any other player.

In fact, Nunez's woodwork hits surpass the total of four entire clubs this season. His frequent encounters with the woodwork explain Liverpool's lead in this metric for the 2023/24 season, with four more instances than Everton and five more than Tottenham Hotspur.
