Bundesliga club Mainz 05 announced on Thursday that they have reached a mutual agreement to part ways with coach Bo Svensson, following the team's disappointing performance at the beginning of the season. Mainz's recent elimination from the German Cup, coupled with their current position at the bottom of the league standings with merely three points from nine matches, has prompted this decision.

Expressing his sentiments, the 44-year-old Svensson stated, "It's very difficult for me to say goodbye, but I have the feeling that now is the right time. But unfortunately, due to results, the time has come to accept that no individual is bigger than the club and that everyone needs to pull together to get through this."

Svensson, a Dane, assumed the position of Mainz manager in January 2021. In the interim, Jan Siewert, who presently serves as the club's Under-23 coach, will step in to oversee the first team.
